Alexia Katsanidou is a professor of Empirical Social Research at the University of Cologne. She leads the department Survey Data Curation at GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences. Her research focuses on democratic conflict and the impact of context, geographical and economic, on individual attitudes and behaviour. She has worked on contemporary themes such as gender attitudes, environmental issues, and support for democracy.  She leads various initiatives on data curation, data harmonisation and data linking, while also  promoting the synergies between social science surveys and natural sciences earth observational data. She is in the Steering Committee of MEDem, the upcoming European Infrastructure for Democracy Research.
